Welcome to Essentially Emma, my name is Emma Hanton and I am the creator of this (hopefully) lovely space. I have a BSc in Human Physiology, an MSc in Human Nutrition and I also happen to be a massive foodie.
My interest and difficulties with food started as a teenager while I was competing as a gymnast in high school. Once I reached university, this interest only grew as my lectures taught me more and more about the science behind our bodies. I had always wanted to work in the healthcare field but wasn't quite sure where. Somewhere during second year it dawned on me that nutrition was my calling and I haven't looked back since.
After finally plucking up the courage to start a food instagram, I decided to take the plunge and create a blog as a space for me to record my recipes and various musings about nutrition, health and wellness. My philosophy is that nutrition should be about nourishing yourself with the food that you love. Eating should be a happy social event and should bring joy into your life and not guilt and self-doubt. I hope that you learn something new and please get in touch if you would like to chat!
